Architectural Model Making

We recently completed this Architectural model of Georges Dock in Dublin city at a scale of 1:250, for an architectural student at DIT. He needed to recreate the existing built fabric of 3 IFSC Buildings and the CHQ building.

We used laser cut MDF to create the base layout and then laser cut birch plywood for the building models. A lot of hours went in to this project but we were pleased with the end result, as was our client who needed this architectural model for part of his final year project.

As well as laser cut model making we can also use our 3D Printer to create models. This project included some 3D printed vehicles to bring some life to the streetscape. We can work with CAD models from a variety of software packages, from SketchUp to AutoCAD.

Having a physical model made of your architecture project serves as a functional guide to the architectural design. It can also be a nice keepsake created after the building has been finished. We have also worked with hobbyists who like to recreate existing building for pleasure or for use on railway sets or similar.

The original architects of the IFSC were Burke Kennedy Doyle who worked with the Custom House Docks Company. Phase 1 of the IFSC was built in 1998. It started with the construction of The International Centre, IFSC House and La Touche House.

Custom Made Point of Sale Displays

As any retailer will tell you having a good point of sale displays can make a big difference to your sales.

Here is an example of a recent POS display we made for our customer Johnny Magory books

These wooden countertop stands can hold up to 20 paperback books or 10 hardbacks. Each stand has “Johnny Magory’s story” engraved into it so everyone who’s new to Johnny Magory can learn about him.

These stylish stands ensure that the Johnny Magory books catch the attention of children and adults alike. They really help to make them stand out from competing products in gift and book shops. Having a custom made point of sale display is the difference between getting found or being hidden.

Customer Spotlight – Tom Ferguson, 3D Contour Maps

We wanted to showcase the work of one of our customers, Tom Ferguson, who has been working with us to learn how to use our laser cutter/engraver.

Tom had a vision to make 3D countour maps of coastline areas in Ireland. He engaged our laser cutting and engraving services and use it to cut out the map pieces and engrave them so they could be assembled to give the 3D effect. The maps are topographically accurate and based on admiralty charts of the relevant area.

We are delighted to be able to help Tom bring his idea to life and I’m sure you will agree the finished product looks excellent.

Now that Tom has the process of laser cutting & engraving and then assembling his maps he is starting to take on commissions for other people.
